According to the Arban-Bell tuba method book William Bell began his career with the NY Phil in 1943, and played with that orchestra for 13 years. From a site I have found on orchestra section histories, I don't remember the site, Joe Novotny started his career with the New York Philharmonic in 1961 and played in there until 1979, so who played in the Philharmonic for the years of 1956 to 1961. Was it Bell or Novotny? Or maybe someone else? I also remember seeing a re-run Broadcast of the Young People's Concerts that was recorded in the late 50's and 60's, and I remember on a 1959 Young People's Concert recording, the tubist looked alot like Mr. Novotny. I was just wondering. Thanks
