It's probably good to keep in mind how the rest of the world looks at the tuba as a solo instrument. The Daily news critic said Gene got to lug his tuba to the front of the orchesta, obviously prejudiced from the start, and it typifies the larger view of our instrument.
We still have a long way to go, so lug that 16 feet of brass tubing around with dignity.
