This is absolutely true -- his bass lines ROCK! I have a stack of string bass parts to orchestral works -- my favorite practice routine, when I don't feel like practicing, is to strap on the headphones and play along with a 19th-century symphony. The bass parts to Dvorak 6-9 are fantastic. Other favorites are Beethoven 4, 7, 8, and any of the Schumann. Tres exhilarating.
Oh, yeah -- I forgot to mention the finale from Bruckner 5 -- but that would go without saying, in this crowd....
