I use the Hagerty's products also on my silver tubas, when my BAT was re-finished (by G. Meinl) the satin was buffed to bright and then the whole horn was replated in "German silver." My other silver tuba is satin silver plate. Hagerty's products are GREAT, if a bit messy. The satin horn silvering is really thin, as it was applied after the horn was cut and later stripped and blasted for the satin finish. In fact the silver's disappearing on the branch I rest my left hand on, so I use the polish sparingly, like every few months, and I avoid spraying it on the bare brass completely. For your new horn I'd suggest using the paint-spray-can-sized Hagerty's aerosol, but do it outside or in a WELL-ventilated area, its full of perchlorethylene which not only stinks but is carcinogenic. I don't think the clear contact plastic is a good idea, like you said what happens when you go to remove it?
