Kevin, you've got some great advice from Matt, who may be too modest to let you know he's the genius in the shop at Dillon Music, one of the truly great instrument modification and repair artists around today. (sorry Matt, don't mean to embarrass you).

The point is not to ignore the questions you're asking, but to put them into perspective. Although at 16/17 I knew I would go on to college, I had no real clue what I would end up doing. Too many kids today seem to be making a bee line for some career goal from the age of 10 or 15. There may be some people who know what they want at that age, but I worry about people like that.

Get out and have fun for now. Practice for sure, and keep your academics up to give you a wide array of choices. But don't obsess on it. Party a little, have a wild hair, cause serious will come all too soon!
