Take the time now to learn the transposition. When you see the written C, play open. Written C sounds Bb. Get a beginner trumpet book and practice on easy etudes. Make yourself a set of flash cards with the treble clef and note (on the staff) on one side and the note name and fingering on the other. I finally learned treble clef in my mid 20's. BELIEVE ME THIS IS THE BEST WAY. If you want to play the Eb part on an Eb tuba, same fingerings!!!! As a bonus, if you want to switch to CC tuba(for concert pitch music), you will have a very easy time because you will already know "C" fingerings. Good luck, have fun, be good to your mom and dad.
