I'm not sure I know how to describe it, but I know it when I hear it.

Let me go back to a really good pro's sound. An old teacher of mine switched from an Alex to a York copy many years ago. His sound on the Alex was *commanding.* On the Yorkbrunner, it had a sweetness to it that the Alex lacked. The mix of overtones was different, but I'd be hard-pressed to try and identify what the differences were. One thing he told me at the time was that he'd had to get used to relaxing and letting the Yorkbrunner do the work. Even before he said that to me, I could hear it.

I had the same impression of "easy sound" on my (sadly) one occasion to hear Arnold Jacobs live, when the CSO played on tour in Austin (about 1985).

I'm looking for a horn that has that easy sound. Note that I do not think the germanic sound is a bad thing. I'm considering a horn that would complement the Miraphone, not compete with it.
