You might also consider the Sony WM-D6C Walkman Professional. It is about half the price of a portable DAT machines, uses standard cassettes (which can be played just about anywhere (including car stereos) and it makes great recordings. I have had mine for about a year and I am very happy with it. I record my practice sessions and concerts and often listen to them in the car.
