I tried one out at a conference at the Tuba Exchange booth in San Antonio a couple years ago. It was a 5/4 instrument and from what I remember, it blew nicely for me. It did have some intonation quirks though. 2nd valve notes were extra flat. (B natural and G flat in the staff) Some open partial notes were also flatter than normal. (G natural in the staff and C above the staff). It was unlaquered brass and the sound was very nice for orchestral use. A bit much for most quintet use. It was also a bit expensive for me. $8,500.00 I recall was the asking price. Maybe some other Gronitz's don't have the intonation problems this had, but there are some other horns out there for the same price or cheaper that can do the same job for you in tune IMO. Hope this helps alittle.

Ken
