well whoever would think theme and variations are the be-all of musicality are definitely lacking in something, but I really think theme and variation pieces are great, if not only entertaining for the audience, simple melody become more and more complex, but a good thing to work up for any musician, not only technically, but putting across the same musical line you had in the slow theme and making it show up in the 80th variation of the theme, that's a big challenge.
