When Vaughn Williams was writing the harmonica concerto for Larry Adler, he said something if Larry didn't like it, he'd rewrite it. If he didn't like the rewrite, RVW would score the whole thing for bass tuba. Adler liked the first version and RVW eventually wrote the tuba concerto.
