Given the tessitura of the original, my humble assumption would be that Mr. Leinsinger wrote this with the Eb tuba in mind. The prevailing "solo" horn of that day could be construed as an Eb as that was what was popular. Either way, I have performed this piece of CC, BBb, and EEb and have found that after getting over the "hero" image I had of myself, EEb works the best. I have yet to play it on F, although I have worked it up on that instrument. The low stuff lacks a little of the "umph", but that is probably my horn and my concept talking. I am glad someone still enjoys the whole Tubby thing. I am hurt when some people turn there backs on our "history".
