I played the Marzan BBb 4 valved rotary in college. It was new when I played it (1970). Unfortunately it was school owned, but I do still use the Marzan mouthpiece. ANYHOW, it was great horn and I believe the two that the school owned are still being used. Besides the great intonation and tone and slanted valves, two other factors made it somewhat unique: tuning valve was easily accessible by left hand while playing and the rotary linkage was string. I think they were made by Willson.

This past year I was borrowing a Marzan 4 valved piston model (19" bell) from a local high school. I liked it as well. A respected tuba repair person believes this piston model was made by Bohm & Meinl (bought by Walter Nirschl).

Hope this helps.
