I would highly recommend this horn. I do not own one, but I have played one at Dillon's and I felt it was a very capable BBb. It will not be the most open horn there is, but do not let the bore size fool you. It is very responsive and has a very good dynamic range. My only beef with this horn versus the old King is that it might not have as much projection. However the ergonomics are much better with the shorter bell and the balance is superb. The low register seemed a little more open than the older version, possibly being from the larger bell diameter and throat. As with all King's, the valve action is excellent. If you want an "American" style BBb go for this horn. The Conn 5J is also an option, but a little smaller. The only other horn that falls into the "American" style is ironically the VMI 3301/3302 (IMHO).
Good Luck,
Matt G
