Yes, my starting salary was a little higher than usual. My principal paid me extended day, extended year, along with a BD supplement. This added about $2k to the annual. The interesting thing is that the county I work for doesn't have a extremely high local supplement for teachers in general. And yes, my wife's earning potential is much greater. She has been at her company for 7 years and has ten years of total experience, and you bet, her salary has almost doubled. A little more and I can retire early and paractice tube more (ha ha). In talking about salaries my point is that band directors (and that's all I can speak to) can pay the bills. The school system I teach in is about half-way between Chattanooga and Atlanta (on I-75). This is pretty much out in the country. Not like South Georgia, but not metro Atlanta either.
