Specifics.. What model instrument and mouthpiece are you using? It could be as simple as your equipment choice lending itself to sounding like a 4/4 CC. Making a big sound on small horns isn't a bad thing. ;b Rather than worry about having too big a sound you might reexamine the character of the sound that you choose to make.

A generic answer to your question would be that you might look into a smaller bowl shaped mouthpiece. Others will have other suggestions but two examples would be the PT-65, and the C4.

I would also encourage you to listen to recordings of really great F tuba playing.

There are other great recordings out there but these are my current favorites. Please note my german F tuba bias and take any of my advice with that in mind.
