I have that RCA recording of Alexander Nevsky with Ormandy/Philadelphia Orchestra/Mendelssohn Club Chorus--on a discrete quadraphonic reel-to-reel tape! One of the finest, most exciting analog recordings ever made. That surround-sound recording is not the taste of more conventional listeners, but for one who actually sang in a chorus with the Phila. Orch. under Ormandy's baton, it's a thrill to recreate the sensation of being on the stage of the Academy of Music. (And, of course, as a tubist, Nevsky is great fun to play.) You can really isolate Paul Kryzwicki's tuba--it rocks! Hopefully, when this recording is re-released, it will be in Dolby Digital or some other discrete surround-sound format.
