After checking that the obvious: springs are straight, in place and not "off-set." I coat my fingers lightly with Anhydrous Eucerin and then "handle" the springs, placing a light coating of it on the springs. I also use it on the valve caps, to keep them threading smoothly, as well as the tuning slides. I use Al Cass valve oil on the pistons - this doesn't produce any inappropriate reaction between the Eucerin and the valve oil.
