I also had a 'fone 188-5U that I would love to still have. It was previously owned by Tommy Johnson and had a great response, intonation, and a good sound, but not enough of it. It was great for quintet and ensembles less than 40 people. Any bigger than that and the horn started to "edge out" from trying to play at high volume levels.
Anyhow, I sold the horn for $2500 to finance a 6/4 which I have sold to go back to a 4/4. But, the horn had some special qualities that you find in very few horns, but it needed to be overhauled and I didn't have or want to spend the cash at the time. It wasn't as capable of an all around horn as what I have now, but in its niche it was unsurpassed.
