In the past many of my colleagues have bemoaned the number of academic requirements NASM (National Assoc. of Schools of Music) has forced on institutions--specifically tons of Music History for undergarduate performance majors. In fact one of my teachers quit an adjunct position over this issue. Now, Curtis and Juilliard seem to do fine without NASM, right? I'm just curious, for those who have dealt with this issue: what are your feelings on this topic? A prep./community music school I teach at (Musicworks Northwest) is considering accredidation and NASM is a candidate--I am very afraid!
