The Sonatina, Op. 57, per tuba e pianoforte was written in 1970 for Manfred Hoppert (the Concertino, op. 77, and Brass Quintet, op. 65 were also written for him). The premiere performance was given in Munich in 1970. It has been recorded by Manfred Hoppert, Toby Hanks, Jan Duga, Jeff Funderburk, David Randolph, and most recently by the tubist of the Munich Philharmonic, Thomas Walsh. You can find biographical information on Professor Koetsier in Groves. By the way, David Randolph wrote a review of the Sonatina in the Tuba Journal, Vol. IX, No. 3, pg. 24-25. Hope this helps. -Ed O.
