You might try doing a search on "Chris Stratton". He was making his own natural trumpets and (French) horns for a while, then seems to have dropped off the internet. He described lots of experiments with bending to get his bows and crooks in the right shape. Some of his posts on mimf.com may, also, be archived there, and are very helpful.
