Klaus,
Congrats on a pretty neat find. At one time, my duties with the Army Ground Froces Band in Atlanta included playing one of those beasts. Our instrumentation was basically the same as used in Washington, with one Eb soprano, several Bb sopranos, four tenors in Bb and two G basses. The first time I took one out for a rehearsal, I discoverd that our basses were a bit flat, and after getting permission, snipped two inches of tubing out of a large wrap on the left-rear of the instruments. The stock mouthpieces were not conducive to laying down sufficient bass to balance the rest of the group, so I took a Blessing 24AW mouthpiece (no great loss if the experiment didn't work), and cut it to the length of the original mouthpiece and turned the shank down to fit the bass trumpet. The oversize mouthpiece helped me crank out the bass, and the added weight helped balance the tabard, which was quite heavy.
Enjoy playing that thing, and if you need a mouthpiece, let me know.
