college tubist here too. i feel you man, and the best advice that has helped me is not to make plans and to just keep on truckin (like buddy heather). as far as feeling like you are not improving, just don't try so hard. and you need to take in everything that every musician (or whatever) has to offer. i've had a lot of trouble finding out what it really even means to be a musician (let alone a tubist). but i find that i feel the most content when i stop looking for answers. that is when all of my surroundings kind of mesh together and everything makes sense.
ok, kind of ironic that nothing i just said makes sense, but dig this. life is a process and when it stops changing, you're dead.
