These are ball-joints for the linkages for rotary valves. They, typically, have a stainless steel, drilled, ball, through which a screw attaches the ball to the valve lever or stop arm, and a bronze housing around the ball, which allows the ball to rotate in three axes (two of which allow only limited movement).
