I have never been in the same room as a nickel tuba. I have repaired many nickel french horns and cornets made by various manufactures. Every single one of these horns was nickel with a laquer coating. Many french horns are all nickel with laquer. Some cornets were nickel plated brass with laquer. I have not seen any nickel horns without laquer. The spots on these horns where the laquer has worn/chipped, the nickel tarnishes to a dull gray rather quickly (kind of like brass). That is my experience. If any one has/had a nickel tuba Please let us know if there is lacquer and if the horn is brass with plating or all nickel(you can tell by looking inside tuning slides, you may have to thoroughly clean the inside of the tube to tell). Thanks
