The trouble was, I could play higher than our trombone section (if that gives a hint at their palying level), and there was only one other euph player who had any volume. So I gave the bottom to the tuba section (three of us) and then we had to be the bottom for the band, and sometimes even the tenor! :-P
I know it sounds "non-team spirit" to talk like this, but when folks would ask why didn't i try out for drum major, it was more PC to say "Oh, I just like palying too much" than "well, everyone else sucks, so you need SOOMEONE who can play"
I'm sorry, just in a cynical mood, i guess.
