Oscar was as great and as humble a man as I have ever known. His playing was exquisite. He never had a mean bone in his body and he always was the consummate gentleman. He was a real credit to the craft. Oscar was my first teacher and his instruction laid the foundation that is still in place in my playing. His approach to playing, a mixture of ingenuity, technical skill, and extreme musicality and style, set a standard for me that I still strive for today. His years with the Detroit Symphony were some of the greatest years that orchestra has ever had. The recordings he made with the orchestra still remain as great musical examples. His teaching will also live on through his many students. He will be missed.
