I've dissembled rotary valves in my PT-6 and Yamaha YCB-661 in the last few months. The Yamaha's were much easier, BTW. If there was binding (ie the rotor not turning freely after re-insertion) tapping around the edge of the valve bearing punch easily fixed the problem, wheras with the PT-6, the only thing that worked was to use the valve punch to push the rotor out a bit. Too much and the valve rattled: so this took a lot of fiddling.
I don't believe it's purely a job for repairmen, but I guess if you're very carefull and use the right tools...
