I'm not arguing that there is no difference. But I wonder if your bells sound the same out front, even if they vibrate differently in your hands. It's not an easy test to make, because you can't listen out front and play at the same time. An experiment with a qualified listener from behind a screen would be most interesting, however. Of course, you'd have to be blinfolded, too, so that you would not know which bell is being used, and even then you'd feel a difference even if the listener could not hear the difference.

Some would argue that a bell that feels dead is really one that projects most effectively.
