One very famous tuba player announced to a Master Class, "I auditioned for NYPO. Warren won the chair because no one worked harder than he did to get it."
Another famous tuba player and teacher asked a student in a Master Class, "What are your goals? Face it, if you're not ready to dedicate your whole self to constantly working hard on the tuba, you're not going to be another Warren Deck."
The NYPO website still lists Warren Deck as Principal. Who has been doing most of the playing recently? Are auditions being held for a permanent replacement?
