If I could talk you out of that viewpoint, I would!

For me, the primary concern with any horn is how it plays. I put the highest priority on how the tuba sounds, how easy it is to make it sound that way, how easy it is for me to manipulate the intonation, how well the horn fits in my hands, etc. Always, the very last thing I think about is how the horn looks. That's because nobody can hear how a horn looks. They sure can hear how a horn sounds! Especially when thinking about leadpipe placement, something that really affects how well you play a given instrument, your priority should be for playing comfort rather than cosmetics. This is a rule I have always followed and it has served me well.

My opinion for what it's worth...
