Well at our school here is a sample of the trips, We are near San Francisco
Chior: Australia, China, England
Band: Los Angeles, Sweden (maybe next year Hawaii)
Youth Orchestra: Italy

Students obviously like the trips, and are more likely to stay in the program when these trips take place, also we get other people all over the place who know know our program.
I must say asa student it is indeed a great experiance to show up at some random place hundreds of miles from home and put on a concert for people you don't know. let's just say its an enlightening experiance for the kids.

I do however find the prices for trips like these to be rediculous. Unfortunetly the conductors always do it through special tour operators and this makes it rediculously expensive. I know for a fact that I could have done the smae things in LA for much less than what we had to pay for the tour. Our school offers scholorships for these trips, but i realize that the main problem at least at our school is not the inability to pay for the trip but rather the not-wanting" to pay for it.
