Even though I used a fairly large tuba mouthpiece througout much of college, I found that going with a really large bass bone mouthpiece caused problems in intonation, endurance, and efficient use of air. When I got away from a Bach 1-1/2G and went to a 3G, a lot of the problems disappeared. The 3G is still big enough to facilitate low range and is small enough to not wash all of the brightness out of your sound.
