Sounds like a tuba player talking. Listeners, apart from other tubists, don't care what instrument is used as long at it sounds good. So playing Berlioz on CC tuba because you can may not give the best rendention. Use whatever equipment allows you to most closely reach your ideal, even if that means using atypical instruments like some of the contraptions Jim Self and Roger Bobo have been known to commission.

As far as "pros" vw "non-pros" goes. The only difference is that the "pros" typically get paid better. There is very little difference between a "pro" and a "non-pro". There are several advanced college students who could probably play circles around many of us "pros" on some of the literature. Good music is good music and it doesn't matter to the listener whether you play CC or F. It also doesn't matter to the listener whether you are highly paid like Yo-Yo-Ma or if you a 22 year old college student and playing your senior recital. If you do whatever is necessary to communicate music to the audience, then you are doing the right thing.

Also be a good human, BTW.
