When you double professionally, the people who hire you generally aren't interested in which instrument is the double. Both, or all three, (however many) have to sound like your first instrument. Broadway is the most common venue for doubling on the same gig, and the majority of shows require solid commercial bass trombone playing combined with very exposed, sometimes soloistic tuba playing. Ragtime required solid "ragtine" tuba playing, very very exposed, over a huge range of the instrument, combined with a small amount of exposed, soloistic euphonium playing. Generally, there's nowhere to hide, and it's the people who have command of all their instruments who get the calls. As an "enthusiast" doubler, your mileage will vary, I'm sure.
