In the early 1950's, kids started on Eb and moved to BBb.

From the mid-1920's through the early 1960's (at least) tubas were rarely called tubas, rather basses usually. Recording bells were very popular until the 1960s.

In the 30's-50's, American piston horns were usually large bore, upright pistons, recording bell.

In the 50's German horns began to have wider popularity, and CC horns started to predominate with professionals over BBb horns. The late '50's and '60s was the era of the Alexander. The later '60s and '70s the era of the miraphone/mirafone.
