Of course the Mendelssohn is an ophecleide part and is often played (wrongly) grotesquely loud. If the horn players in your orchestra are good you could emulate their articulation, because you are working with them there. I agree totally with Graham in letting the conductor ask for more. The Wedding March is a lot more straightforward and presents the usual problems of being covered up by the bass trombone. Good luck, John
