When I play this gorgeous work, I just think I am part of the horn section. It's nice not to play with the trombones for a change. I slur that passage, but with a little punch on each note to bring it out. I've played it using an F tuba for numerous orchestras and conductors and have not gotten any comments from the conductors to play it any other way.

On a side note, years ago I did the summer season with the NYC Ballet in Saratoga, NY and there were 2 shows to play of Midsummers Night Dream. Well, the night before, something hit me and I ended up all night with intra-veinous liquids in the hospital til 6:00 in the morning. I was a hurt'n puppy when I came out, but for some reason, I nailed everything for both shows later that day. That wasn't necessarily the case for the performances preceeding those 2.

Good luck, and have fun - STEVE
