To throw out another related experience but not offer any suggestions, here goes:
My CC tuba has a rather short leadpipe, and my two problem notes are D and low G (4th valve). If I understand things correctly, the G equates to the C on an F tuba, so the problem could be a more universal phenomenon that we readily admit. I need to try some CCs with longer leadpipes to see if there's a difference.
And then do the same with F horns (which I've never played, sadly).
