Most of the new uploads are placed within the group linked to below here. A euph with Berliner Pumpen, several French instruments, plus instruments from Scotland, Italy, Spain, and Hungary. And from some less known German makers.

A Russian bassoon, a wooden predecessor of the tuba, with a painted dragon-head for bell can be found here:

A Russian flareless military bugle

is interesting for at least two reasons:

The lack of a bell flare could be seen in a context with early Cerveny tuba bells, those that I call "Urtext" bells.

But it can also be seen in the context of the musical vehicle called "Russian horns". These could be called the brass equivalent of an organ. And in some ways of the US phenomenon of the Bell Choir.

In a Russian Horn ensemble each player has a conical bugle on which he shall blow only one or a few notes. These bugles are pitched to form a diatonic scale within a chosen key. Each player does not play continuously. He only honks out his note(-s) as they fit into a more or less complicated score laid out by the composer or arranger.

I have attempted to remove yet another stumblestone from the viewing of my gallery. When there only has been one photo of a certain instrument, I used to link directly to the high resolution version. However some browsers like older IE and present Netscape versions will not allow you to see the high resolution versions. When i found out of that recently, I changed all the links in the index, so that they point to the medium sized version. From there users of newer IE or other modern browsers can click on the Full Size link to see the high resolution photos, where they are available.

This gallery belongs on the web. There will be no book version.
