The great majority of band director stipends cover all the general duties that directors encounter outside of regular school hours i.e. before and after school rehearsals during the school year, summer band rehearsals, all-region and all-state clinics, sectionals, athletic bands, marching and concert contests, solo and ensemble contests, concerts, recruiting beginners, etc, etc............ I think stipends fall way short of compensating directors for all the extra time that is required to run a successful program.
