I recently purchased a Sony Minidisc player/recorder. I was told the choice of microphone was very important, so I chose a high quality Sony stereo microphone (I don't have the model # here at work) that cost even a bit more than the player/recorder. For convenience I also bought a Sony deck that has a CD player/recorder on left side and a minidisc player/recorder on the right side, so that transfers from minidisc to CD are easier. I have noticed that the microphone is very sensitive, sometimes picking up more breathing sound than one would like, so you might have to experiment with mic location, direction, etc. But overall this is a very convenient little setup.
