One of the best suggestions that I ever received was to mentally go through the ENTIRE audition process in your mind daily. Away from the horn, just close your eyes and imagine vividly every detail you can. Who will you see there? What will you be wearing, what will you have for breakfast. Is it raining? Sunny? Go through each round, see the "curtain" and the unknown people behind. Go through it all and then see yourself winning it. Then do it again, and change something. Someone you talked to, whatever. It's just like the pro ball players that say they image the ball going through the hoop before they shoot the freethrow. I believe that it works, it helped me get my job. I also think that it's something that musicians should do more. Of course, you've got to practice all the stuff, and be prepared like that. But give the mental imagery thing a try, I believe it works.
