Ensemble Excerpt Work?

With auditions still coming up, I was wondering...

How many of you potential applicants try to apply your practice room techniques to playing with a low brass section or in the case of the NYPO audition, quintet. It would make sense to me (maybe only) to beg my friends for as much time as possible to run these excerpts with them as a section. Besides, it would be great practice for all involved. I know some of the conservatories and big schools of music put together excerpt classes, but if I were getting ready (ha,ha) I would think it might be advantageous to get a lot of ensemble time in on these excerpts.

What do you guys think?

Plus you can get some feedback from three or four people at once on your ensemble skills, and I think that is probably what wins the finals.

Just my thoughts. I am excited to see who comes out in these next couple of auditions. Once again, good luck to all!
