Much is made out of Jacobs' adjustable cup mouthpiece, however I noticed him playing his Helleberg much more often during the 10+ years I studied with him. My guess would be that he was playing his Helleberg.

I don't remember who made the adjustable cup mouthpiece but I don't think it was Schilke. I'll try to research it but it'll take a while.

He was playing a 5 valve (4+1) CC Holton on that recording. After he sold one of the Yorks, he kept the Holton in his basement for practice. The York stayed at Orchestra Hall. He sounded better on it than anyone else.

I forget the model number of the CC Holton tubas, I think it was 345 or 341 but it was not engraved anywhere on the Holton I owned.
