I've flown extensively lately with my 182. Instead of a hard case, I bought a big Rubbermaid "action packer" with wheels and enough room for 3 inch thick foam all the way around. It worked for me, but I would not recommed it for most people because:

1. I look like a homeless tuba geek.
2. If it fails, I get to pay for the repairs.

I suggest that if you fly, get a case that will warranty damage done. Walt Johnson has been recommended by many.

I have been lucky with my homemade case, but it isn't for everyone.
