They work best if you sing either a fifth above the root or a 10th above. When you get them in tune you can hear difference tones or other notes which are produced sympathetically. You must play softly and you will probably have to sing pretty loudly. also the lower the note you play the easier it is (for me anyway). the farther apart the notes are the easier also (again for me anyway).For me it is easier on the tuba because I can play lower notes and then I do not have to sing as high. once you get the hang of it you can play a long note and sing a melody above it and then change the played note to play the root note of a harmonizing chord. When you get the hang of that try parallel motion. say parallel 10ths or 5ths. Another neat move is singing the suspended 4th and resolvong it to the third (or 11 to 10). The best way to do it is just try it and have fun with it. ken k
