I agree with Sean in that the combination of the oils combined with the
washed down slide grease is most likely the culprit. Once you have cleaned
it out thoroughly (and I would recommend that you stay with traditional
valve oil for your rotary valves)- oil all the mechanisms at that time,
before putting new slide grease on if you are not going to disassemble the
valves. Use something like Al Cass on the valves themselve and a dab of
rotor oil on the valve bearings, both top and bottom. These are located:
top- where the valve sticks out of the casing under where the linkage joins
the valve. Bottom - remove the bottom protective covers (unscrew them) and
place 3 drops of rotor oil on the bearing that you will see there, then put
the caps back on.
For linkages there are a lot of options depending on the make-up of your
particular system. I have used regular valve oil, dilectric silicone
compound grease (sometime cut with a little valve oil), 3 in 1 oil or
sewing machine oil (all; dependin on the tolerances).

It might be a good idea to have your local repair person give you a lesson
on dismantling rotary valves because they need to be cleaned about once
a year.

Best of luck to you.
