James, Dean is right, your math isn't quite right. D should work very well 234. Db, 134 and C all four. Have you discovered false or priveledged tones? You can play Eb open, D second, Db first, C one and two and low B two and three. Fifth valves are added to tubas mainly because of the note one half step above the fundamental. You simply run out of valves with a four valve horn. False tones take a little bit of practice but can be very useful in many ways. Start with low Eb with valves, then try to play it open. It can be done and will sound pretty awful to you at With practice you will be able to use false tones without the listener even noticing any difference and add an "in tune" C and B to your low register.
